Cockroaches are unwanted tenants that like to appear in our homes. Not only do they disturb us with their company, but they also carry various bacteria and pathogens that can harm our health. See how to get rid of them in a simple way.
Fighting cockroaches is not the easiest thing to do. Once they have established themselves in the house, it is very difficult to get rid of them. They most often lurk in places with access to food, as they like to snack on our foodstuffs. They can also be found where there is moist air – usually the bathroom, cellar or pantry.
They usually get in through holes in the floor, leaky windows, pipes or air vents. For this reason, it is worth ensuring that all nooks and crannies in our house are sealed and do not provide any opportunity for insects to squeeze through. What’s more, it is also important to take general care of the tidiness of your home – taking out the rubbish regularly, not leaving food leftovers and keeping food safe.
Home remedies for cockroaches
How do you know if cockroaches are in the house? Their presence will be indicated by small brown droppings left behind. If you want to make sure you are dealing with them, it is best to sprinkle sugar on the floor and leave it overnight. When you suddenly turn on the light, you will see them feeding in that spot.
One of the most effective ways to deter them is to use diatomaceous earth (diatomite). We know it mainly from its use as a fertiliser for plants, but also for its medicinal or cosmetic properties. Few people know, but it can be an excellent agent in the fight against various bugs.
All you have to do is sprinkle it in edges, cracks and near any holes in the house. The powder will provide an insurmountable barrier for cockroaches. It’s just important to change it regularly for fresh ones when it gets damp.
